Natural Gas Basics for Businesses

Natural gas is used by businesses as a fuel for vehicles, generators, process heat and other operations. In Nigerian commercial discussions it usually appears as CNG — compressed natural gas — or LNG — liquefied natural gas.

The two are related, but they are not interchangeable. The right conversation depends on how your business uses energy, at what scale, and under what operating conditions — including where you work and what you currently burn.

CNG and LNG in brief

CNG is natural gas stored at high pressure. It is most often discussed for commercial vehicles and other mobility uses. LNG is natural gas cooled into a liquid so larger quantities can be stored and moved. It is more often considered for industrial and larger commercial energy requirements.

Neither option is a universal replacement for diesel, petrol, LPG or grid electricity. Availability, site readiness, equipment compatibility and regulation all affect whether a supply arrangement can be made to work.
